Aloha Stadium Closing Event and Activities Tribute

Saying Farewell to a Honolulu Landmark

As the University of Hawaii football team's 2023 season approaches, the Clarence T. C. Ching Athletic Complex, also known as Aloha Stadium, prepares to close its doors. On Saturday, February 25, 2023, the community will gather for a closing event and activities tribute to honor the stadium's legacy.

Transforming into a New Entertainment District

Aloha Stadium, which has hosted countless sporting events and concerts over the years, will soon be replaced by a new stadium. The surrounding 98 acres will be transformed into the New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District, bringing new entertainment and recreational opportunities to Honolulu.

Capital Improvement Projects at University of Hawaii

In preparation for the transition, the University of Hawaii Board of Regents approved a $30 million capital improvement project in August 2022 to expand the seating capacity at the Clarence T. C. Ching Athletic Complex. This expansion will ensure that the university continues to have a state-of-the-art facility for its football program.

Community Celebration and Tribute

The February 25 closing event will feature a range of activities to celebrate Aloha Stadium's history and pay tribute to its impact on the community. Attendees can enjoy live music, food trucks, and interactive displays that showcase the stadium's most memorable moments.

Preserving the Legacy

The closing event also aims to preserve the legacy of Aloha Stadium. The University of Hawaii Foundation has established a special fund where individuals and organizations can make donations to support the restoration of Aloha Stadium's iconic façade. This façade will be incorporated into the design of the new stadium, ensuring that a piece of the original structure remains.
