Manchester City moved within one point of Premier League leaders Arsenal with a hard-fought win over Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Julian Alvarez opened the scoring for the visitors after 13 minutes, tapping home from Erling Haaland's cross, and Haaland doubled their lead ten minutes later with a powerful finish from the edge of the box.

Brighton gave themselves a lifeline just before half-time when Leandro Trossard headed in from close range, but City held on to secure all three points, despite the home side peppering Ederson's goal in the second half.

    "I'm very happy with the win," said Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. "We played against a very good team and we had to be patient.

    "Erling Haaland is a special player. He always scores goals and he was very important for us today."

    "We're still not at our best, but we're getting there," said Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi. "We played well today and we made it difficult for Manchester City.

    "I'm proud of my players. We need to keep working hard and we'll get our rewards."
